About

Our Mission

The mission of Cyber Force Journal is to support the United States and its allies by promoting thoughtful discourse related to signals intelligence and cyber operations. We seek to leverage America’s greatest advantage, an open society, into excellence in technical operations by providing a platform to advise both policymakers and practitioners.

Who We Are

Cyber Force Journal is an independent publication platform created by volunteers with direct experience in cyber operations. We are not affiliated with any official organization, and the views expressed here do not represent the views of any government or any government agency.

The Gap We’re Filling

There are many excellent publication venues for military and defense-related content, but writing about cyber operations presents unique challenges.

Experience over citation. Academic journals rely on extensive citations and peer-reviewed sources. In cyber operations, much of what matters most can’t be cited publicly. We value articles grounded in direct experience and operational insight, even when traditional sourcing isn’t possible.

Substance within constraints. Authors can’t discuss specific operations in detail, and we will never ask an author to violate or stretch security rules.

Support for prepublication review. Many government personnel must complete a lengthy prepublication review before publishing. Our editors understand this process and can guide authors through it, helping them contribute while meeting their security obligations and safeguarding protected information.

Practitioner perspective. Our expert reviewers have direct, hands-on experience and understand the technical realities and organizational dynamics of cyber operations.
